We prepare a large number of Wills each year with full written advice. This is an area in which we have considerable expertise and will give general advice in relation to the issue of inheritance tax liability.
We often find a Will instruction starts our relationship with clients, which develops into doing other work for them
Our fees are £120+VAT for a single Will and £190+VAT for Wills for a couple. We give a concessionary for pensioners on Pension Credit, or State Pension and savings of less than £20,000.
N.B. for a single person If your sole assets are significantly over the Inheritance Tax threshold (currently £325,000.00 (tax year 2009/10)) say £375,000.00 then you should definitely consider more complex inheritance planning in your Will(s) using Solicitors who have specific expertise in Inheritance Tax planning and Will Trusts.
As these firms are likely to be major commercial practices, their fees will be substantially more than ours but it will be cost effective in the long run in order to reduce inheritance tax liability.
However if you are married (or the survivor of a married couple), since 9 October 2007 there is the provision for a double inheritance allowance for the surviving spouse if all the assets were transferred to the surviving spouse on the first death. This in tax year 2009/10 the double inheritance tax allowance is £650,000.00. Thus many people who are comfortably off do not require a specialist will and a strightforward family will will suffice.
Again however if a married couple's joint assets are say £700,000.00 or more a more specialist will addressing inheritance tax planning is recommended
